Description
The Librarian for Access Services directs and coordinates the smooth operation of circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, and physical collection management in a team-focused library setting. This role also creates the overall vision for these services and guides the process for setting priorities in Access Services. This position will play an integral role in developing workflows and services that enhance access to our rich print and digital collections for a culturally diverse residential community at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Duties Include but are not limited to:
Leads by example and manages the day-to-day operations and staffing of the circulation service desk, reserves, & ILL including supervision of department staff and student employees.
Provides excellent customer service in-person, via phone, and email in responding to patron inquiries and provides interpretation of patron-facing library policies.
In conjunction with other library staff, oversees management of the library’s physical collection, special projects, and other stacks management-related tasks.
Uses data and assessment techniques for evidence-based decisions around staffing and circulation services.
Serves as key contact for primary functions of the department including providing expertise on Access Services-related functions of the ILS, ILL management/document delivery systems, library catalogs, databases, and e-resources.
Has or acquires familiarity with copyright issues in academic libraries relating to ILL and reserves.
Establishes regular reporting mechanisms to help assess effectiveness of departmental activities to library administration.
Formulates, revises, and implements policies and procedures in response to evolving operational needs.
Aids in collection development tasks.
Reports and acts on observed building or equipment problems.
Provides reference & research services support on an occasional, as-needed basis.
Evaluate existing departmental procedures and workflows, revising or replacing them as needed to maximize efficiency and job performance.
Keep abreast of emerging developments, technologies, standards, and trends affecting Access Services by attending meetings, conferences, programs, workshops, and monitoring listservs.
Participate in initiatives to align library services with diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities.
Engage in continuous professional self-development.
Performs other related duties as required.
Other Information:
This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative exempt position. The position is located in Geneva, NY. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Salary range: $55,341- $86,642.85

Required Qualifications
ALA accredited MLIS or equivalent advanced degree.
Working knowledge of integrated library systems (ILS).
Experience working with circulation and interlibrary loan.
Strong attention to detail; commitment to efficiency and accuracy.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with students, faculty, and library colleagues.
Self-motivated, dependable, and reliable.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Experience hiring, managing, and developing staff.
The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
Substantial and recent Access Services work in a higher education setting.
Strong customer service attitude, as well as positive approach to problem solving.
Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and provide meaningful interpretation of electronic resource usage statistics in support of collection development.
Demonstrated knowledge with emerging technologies.
Experience working with any of the following: Ex Libris Alma & Summon, Springshare, Atlas Systems’ ILLiad and ARES functionality.
Experience working with vendors and other electronic content providers.
Experience with or demonstrated willingness to learn workflows and processes related to interpreting, managing, and negotiating licensing agreements.
Experience with leadership, supervising, and/or training in the use of new procedures, tools, or services.
