Together We Thrive: OhioNet’s ADEI Assessment Report
From October 2023 through July 2024, OhioNet engaged consultants Pamela Espinosa de los Monteros and Janice Jaguszewski to conduct an Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) Assessment. Collaborating with a team of library practitioners, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) librarians and allies, they developed and conducted an inquiry-led assessment across OhioNet member libraries. The process included interviews with BIPOC librarians working in Ohio, as well as three group “dream summits” (one in-person and two virtual), which were attended by over 100 librarians from across Ohio.
Recognizing the significant harm caused by racism, inequity, and exclusion—along with the negative effects of tokenism, bias, and systemic gaps, as well as challenges in achieving progress and advancement in this area— the assessment and summits created and introduced a positive and strength-based ADEI approach that integrates Appreciative Inquiry, inclusive excellence, and elements of Intentional Change Theory (ICT). We invite you to explore the full report to learn more about the findings and how they can shape a more equitable future for Ohio libraries.
