Metadata is key for users to discover and understand digital collections. In this session, participants will learn about metadata standards and best practices.

Presenter Kristen Newby (Ohio History Connection) will define what fields to use, what information to include, and how it should be formatted.

This session will also cover the importance of consistent metadata, especially when considering sharing your collections through tools like the Digital Public Library of America. 

Attendees to this session will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore metadata standards commonly used for digital collections.
  • Learn about best practices for creating consistent metadata.

Discuss considerations for how to share information about your collection to increase access and usage

Presenter Background

Kristen is a digital projects coordinator at the Ohio History Connection, where she works closely with the Ohio Memory team to make Ohio’s rich archival collections available to the public. Metadata creation and remediation are essential and ongoing parts of this work. When not working on metadata, she enjoys watching movies, hiking, and eating pizza.
