Description

Resource description in the library world goes beyond MARC metadata into a litany of alternative metadata schemas, especially when it comes to digital objects. If you’re responsible for digital collections, tackling metadata for your library, or looking for new ways to optimize the discoverability of your non-print collection, attend this session to learn more about one of the most widely known metadata initiatives.

  • Explore the background and history behind Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI)
  • Learn the metadata tags for simple and qualified DC elements
  • Examine and explore tools for utilizing Dublin Core
  • Discover resources and workflows for getting started

This is an introductory course, and no prior experience is needed.

Tim Keller Head of Discovery and Metadata Services

Tim Keller is the Head of Discovery and Metadata Services at Oberlin College and Conservatory, after spending two years as the Head of Cataloging and Metadata at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  Tim earned his MLIS from Kent State University in 2009, and also holds a second MS in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (User Experience Design). In addition to cataloging and making information discoverable, Tim serves as the Subject Headings Working Group Leader under the Cataloging Ethics Steering Committee.
